FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about documenting, publishing and sharing your projects with Qronika.

What is Qronika?

Qronika helps makers preserve and share the story behind the things they create.

You can document a project as it develops, adding photos, milestones and notes to your Project Diary. When you're ready, choose a publication template, preview your project, and publish it as a lasting webpage that can be shared directly or through a QR code.

Who should use Qronika?

Qronika is for makers, artists and creators who want to preserve and share the story behind something they have made.

It can be used for woodworking, furniture, ceramics, sculpture, leatherwork, paintings, textiles, restoration and many other kinds of projects.

A stainless QR badge is available where it suits the finished piece, but it isn't required.

How does Qronika work?

Create a project and document it as you work using your Project Diary. Add photos, milestones and notes that capture how your project develops.

When the project is finished, choose a publication template and preview the result. Once you're happy with it, publish the project to create its sealed public page.

You can then share the publication directly, through your own QR code, or with a Qronika QR badge if your order includes one.

What is included in a Qronika publication?

A Qronika publication includes a lasting public webpage presenting your project using your selected Heritage, Gallery or Journal template, with support for up to 50 photos.

You can also download a self-contained copy of your published page and its images, together with complete Qronika badge artwork in PNG and SVG formats. This makes your publication portable rather than dependent on the Qronika application itself.

If you choose the badge option, Qronika also produces an Original Qronika Stainless QR Badge for your project.

What publication templates can I choose from?

Qronika currently provides three publication styles:

Heritage presents your project in a classic, story-focused format.

Gallery puts your photographs at the centre of the publication, making it particularly suitable for visually rich projects.

Journal emphasizes the chronological story of the project and its Project Diary.

You can preview your project before publishing so you can choose the presentation that works best for it.

Do I need to complete every project detail?

No. Some project information is optional, and Qronika's publication templates adapt to the information you provide.

For example, Journal can use additional details such as project type, materials and techniques, but you don't have to provide all of them. Preview your publication and decide whether you're happy with the result before publishing.

Can I preview my publication before publishing?

Yes. Previewing is an important part of the publishing process.

You can see how your project will look using your selected template and make changes to your project before you publish it.

Can I change my publication after it has been published?

A Qronika publication is designed to become a sealed record of the project as it existed when you published it.

That is an important part of Qronika's purpose: the published page represents a finished project and its story rather than a webpage that continually changes.

Do I have to buy a Qronika QR badge?

No. You can choose a Qronika Publication without ordering a physical badge.

This is particularly useful for projects where a stainless badge may not be suitable, such as paintings, leatherwork, textiles or other delicate pieces. Your publication includes complete Qronika badge artwork that you can use to create a marker appropriate to your project.

How much does Qronika cost?

A Qronika Publication with an Original Qronika Stainless QR Badge is AUD $49 plus delivery.

Alternatively, you can choose Qronika Publication only for AUD $39, without the physical badge or delivery charge.

Both options include the same complete digital publication. There is no subscription required.

Do I need a subscription?

No. Qronika is based on paying for individual publications rather than an ongoing subscription.

You can create and work on your project before deciding whether you're ready to publish it.

How can Qronika host my publication without ongoing fees?

When you publish, Qronika creates a self-contained static webpage with your project story and published images. It doesn't need a database or application server to generate the page each time someone visits, making it simple and inexpensive to host long term. That lets Qronika include hosting in the one-off publication price without an ongoing subscription.

Can I create a custom QR badge?

Yes. Your Qronika Publication includes complete Qronika badge artwork in PNG and SVG formats, which you can use to create, print, engrave or otherwise produce a marker appropriate to your project.

This can be useful when the Original Qronika Stainless QR Badge is not appropriate for the piece.

What can I do with the downloadable badge artwork?

Your publication includes complete Qronika badge artwork in PNG and SVG formats. You can include it with your work or packaging, or use it as artwork for a marker appropriate to your project.

The badge artwork includes the QR code that links directly to your published Qronika project.

What is the Qronika Stainless QR Badge?

The Original Qronika Stainless QR Badge is an optional physical badge made for your published project. It links the object you made to the story of how it was made.

Someone can scan the QR code with their phone and open the Qronika publication for that project.

Where can I use a Qronika QR badge?

A QR badge can be attached to or displayed with many kinds of projects, depending on the material, size and intended use of the object.

For example, it could accompany furniture, artwork, sculpture, handmade objects, restored pieces, exhibition work or other physical creations.

Does Qronika only support woodworking?

No. Qronika can be used for many different kinds of making.

It was designed around the idea of documenting a real project and preserving the story of how it was created, rather than around one particular craft.

Can I include links to my website or social accounts?

Yes. Your publication can include maker links so visitors can discover more of your work, including supported website and social-media links.

What happens to my project photos and information?

Your Project Diary is used to build your publication. When you publish your project, the information and images required for the public page are captured as part of the sealed publication.

How long will my Qronika publication remain available?

Qronika is designed around creating lasting records of real projects.

Our aim is to keep published Qronika pages available for the long term. Publications are also created as self-contained static packages rather than pages that require the Qronika application and database to keep running.

What happens if Qronika no longer operates?

Qronika is designed so that a published project does not depend on the Qronika application continuing to operate.

Each publication is created as a self-contained static package containing the public webpage, published images and complete Qronika badge artwork. It doesn't require the Qronika application or its database to display the published project.

Qronika will also provide makers with a way to download their published package, so they can retain their own copy and, if necessary, host it independently.
